What is NTA?
NTA is National Testing Agency. It is an exam conducting body which has been constituted to conduct all the major examinations in India. Majorly those exams will be conducted by NTA which were previously being conducted by CBSE. The decision to make an autonomous body was constituted in the Union Budget of 2017-18. NTA will be in action from the year 2019 wherein, in starting it would take up one or two exams and then graudally take up the rest of them.
Why has NTA been constituted?
Till now, CBSE was the conducting body of all the major competitive examinations. Apart from these exams, it also conducts Class 10 and Class 12 Board Examinations. With so many examinations under one single entity, it was getting difficult and cumbersome to conduct the examinations for the single largest board. Hence, the decision to make an autonomous body, NTA was taken.
Which exams will be under NTA?
NTA will be taking over the majority of competitive examination which are being conducted by CBSE for now. Those students who prepare for the exams must know what all exams will come under NTA. Check the list of all the major exams which will be conducted by NTA from Year 2019.
- NEET 2019- This exam is for admissions to the medical and dental colleges across India. The admissions will be through the NEET 2019 percentile.
- JEE Main 2019- One of the most important engineering entrance exams, this is conducted as a screening test for JEE Advanced Examination for admissions to Indian Institute of Technologies (IITs).
- UGC NET- This exam is for those who want to go for college and university level lecturership and for the award of Junior Research Fellowship (JRF). It is conducted for Indian nationals.
The above exams are some of the major exams which will be conducted by NTA in a phased manner with the likelihood of NEET being the first one to be conducted under it.
What will be the changes introduced?
Introduction of NTA has been a hot topic of discussion for now. Students who have been preparing for the various competitive examinations are now having this question- “What will be the changes in the exam if NTA comes?”. The answer to this is “Yes”. There are indeed some significant changes which are likely to be seen from the year 2019.
First of all, the exams which were till now being conducted by in pen and paper mode will now be conducted in an online mode. For example, NEET 2019 will be conducted in an online mode. Similarly, other exams will be conducted in online mode only.
Second, all the major papers will be conducted twice in a year. Till now, the exams such as NEET was conducted in offline mode, ie. pen and paper mode. JEE Main also had the pen and paper option. But now, all the exams will be conducted in online mode.
Thirdly, there will be a common syllabus for all the exams. All the major exams till now followed a common NCERT syllabus. But there are many states which have their own syllabus and hence the students from these boards complained about being discriminated about the questions as asked in the paper.
What will be the likely impact on the students?
With the introduction of NTA, the students will now be able to attempt the examinations twice. It will be beneficial in the case that if a student is not able to perform well once in the examination, they can appear again for the exam to perform better. Also since the paper will be conducted online, the chances of getting the results much early will be there.
Also, the syllabus, since now will be made by NTA, the problems of the student feeling discriminated will now not be there since a team of experts will now make the syllabus and also address the queries of the language conversion of the question.
