How to prepare GK for AIIMS 2018?
First of all, you may note that General Knowledge is of two types:
- Current Affairs
- Static GK
Current affairs refer to the events that have taken place recently – in past year or two.
Whereas static GK refers to static facts like people, places, things.
Of the three medical entrance exams that place in India – NEET, AIIMS, JIPMER, only AIIMS MBBS Entrance Exam consists of a GK section. It is broadly to test a candidate’s general awareness.
GK is, in a way, infinite. So there is no way to mug up GK or just cram up such a large pool of facts. But we know that time is less and you really want to crack AIIMS 2018. So this is what you should do.
You should start with knowing what questions have been asked in GK section in AIIMS entrance exam.
As per analysis of last year’s paper, more questions are on current affairs that static GK.

With a few days left, how to prepare for AIIMS 2018 GK?
If you have been reading any newspaper for the past few months, then GK will be very easy for you. Even if you have not, then do not panic. You can just google the latest news items of past few months at least.
Some students start reading Pratiyogita Darpan and similar books. With a few days left, the decision of whether you should or not read such books, which are primarily made for more GK intensive papers like UPSC, is up to you. If you think you have time to read such books, then do, otherwise it will be better to get briefer notes of current affairs.
- Know what has been going on in the medical world.
- Check out which Indians have been in international news, or won awards and accolades.
- Know about the current major positions held by ministers.
- Find out major events in science world, either that are very big or at least major enough in India.
- With all the polls and elections that have happened last year, some questions will come from it; so know what all happened.
Should I study GK or focus only on other sections of AIIMS 2018?
We would suggest that you do dedicate some time to GK. It is really a make or break section as it gives you easy 10 marks. It is easier to score 10 marks in GK than in any other section. This is because it is all memory based, you just have to read a question and if you know its answer you get marks. So it is wise to grab these 10 marks.
